Act 1- Thoughts On the Play

After reading the first act, I know that Macbeth possibly takes place during the medieval times in the country of Scotland. In the beginning, three witches foreshadows that Macbeth who currently was a brave soldier who fought in the war between Scotland and Normandy was to be raised in ranks and eventually will become the King of Scotland. Soon after, King Duncan gives the title Thane of Cawdor to Macbeth. Upon hearing that proclamation, Macbeth envisages the murder of the King in order to turn this prediction into reality. However, he later justifies whether he should actually commit an assassination just to take place but Lady Macbeth tells him that he will not be a man unless he goes through with this. Together they plan to intoxicate King Duncan's body guards with wine until the pass out which they will then plant incriminating evidence of the murder on them.

I think that this play will only become more and more complicated as the story goes on. There are witches, that can foresee the future and a thane that sprung up such a tactical plan. Even after reading the first act, the characters are so sophisticated and the story line is already so intricate with a plan to murder the king!

I think Macbeth is somewhat subordinate to his wife, Lady Macbeth. For example, when he was confused as to whether he would go through with his plan, Lady Macbeth somewhat implies that if he doesn't act on this plan, he's not a man. "When you durst do it, then you were a man;" (I.vii.49)

In my opinion, Shakespeare literature is somewhat confusing and difficult to understand completely because of the language that he used but with the help of videos of the play it is easier to understand the specific details of the plot. However, his work has been greatly recognized and I think that every one of his plays has a great story line.
